I am a passionate student of Bharathanatyam, since age 4. I have also received some training in contemporary and kathak dance forms. I began formal training in acting as I graduated with a degree in performing arts at Christ University, Bangalore, and continued to attend various acting workshops and internships. I have had the opportunity to perform in various prestigious venues in India and outside.
My exploration and experimentations through the years have led me to understand that empathy and imagination are my strengths. They drive my creative force. I see myself wearing different shoes and performing various shades because I can accept and become someone that I might not have previously been.
I was introduced to both theatre and psychology at the same time and its duet left a footprint on my understanding of art. I am intrigued by the mind and try to explore it with everything I create. Theatre, whereas, taught me that art is a collective form, coming from and going back to the community. Hence, I look to contribute positively to my community and my people, in the little ways that I can.
I believe that the reason I am so drawn to art since an early age, is my love for stories. I constantly explore the stories within my body, and I use various mediums to tell the stories that I think are important. I am always keen on learning new ways in which I can express and communicate.
Tanvi Rao is a performing artist. She started learning the style of Bharathanatyam at the tender age of 4, under Guru Smt Geetha Saralaya and Smt. Rashmi Chidanand, Mangaluru. She continued to self-learn and choreograph other forms of dance. She won various national level competitions at a young age, such as the “Dhinak Dhin Dha" at the age of 6 (organized by Delhi Doordarshan, judged by the renowned Pandit Jai Kishan Maharaj) and the Parle G “Dum Duma Dum" (Mumbai Doordarshan) at the age of 8. She was awarded “Apoorva Bala Prathibhe” by Padmavibhushan Dr Veerendra Hegde at the age of 9, and given the Karnataka State award for exceptional achievement in the field of culture, by the Governor of Karnataka, when she was 10 years of age.
She completed her Bharathanatyam Rangapravesha (the debut) at the age of 10, in the jam-packed Mangalore Town hall in November 2008, and completed her Vidwath exams when she was 17 years of age, with distinction. She pursued a bachelor's degree in Performing Arts, English and Psychology, taking theatre as her major. She then took up various acting workshops, and interned and collaborated for various theatre productions.
She has given dance and theatrical performances at many prestigious platforms in India as well as in countries like Malaysia, Singapore, Scotland, and the USA. She travelled around 8 cities of the United states of America with a fellow performer, Bharath Ram, receiving standing ovation at every venue.
She has also earned appreciation and blessings from great personalities like Honorable Dr Sri A P J Abdul Kalam ji, Suresh Wadkar, Udith Narayan , Aishwarya Rai, Madhuri Dixit, Juhi Chawla, Kadri Gopalnath, Anjali Tendulkar etc. The people's President of India, Bharatha Ratna Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam personally met her and congratulated her on her little achievements and wished her success on her path ahead.
Tanvi now continues to pursue dance and acting. She has appeared on the big screen as well as the small screen, and hopes to understand and uphold art in her own way.
After scoring 98% in 10th board exams missing state rank by 7 marks she again scored 98 % in PCMB in her second PU ( 12th grade ) and she decided to follow her passion by taking BA in Performing Arts ( Dance and Theatre) with Psychology and English ( instead of choosing MBBS), at Christ University Bangalore where she graduated in May 2019 with First Rank. She took a one-year break from her studies and explored practical theatre and dance platforms in Mumbai till March 2020 and performed at Prithvi Theatre, NCPA Mumbai etc during this period. Now apart from pursuing her career in acting, she is doing MA in Psychology at IGNOU as on May 2021.

Justice Prevails. We have absolutely no words to express our joy after viewing this message received from Honorable Justice N Santhosh Hegde Sir yesterday night after watching the title song video of "Radhe Shyama" serial along with a few other dances performed by my daughter Tanvi Rao.Tanvi Rao had performed in front of him many years ago in a function. Honorable Justice Santhosh Hegde served as the Judge of Honorable Supreme Court of India, Solicitor General of India and Lokayuta of Karnataka and his name is known for " Fight Against Corruption" which incidentally resembles the theme played by the character Radhe by my daughter Tanvi in the serial Radhe Shyama now being telecasted at Star Suvarna at 6.30 PM ( and streamed in Disney+ Hotstar which can be viewed anytime later). We feel justice granted for all the sincere efforts and hardwork of my daughter. This has a huge significance to us coming during this auspicious occasion of Gowri Ganesha to convey blessings through their Abhaya Hasta.
